Pavones Costa Rica

December 31st, 2009

South Africa has J-Bay, Europe has Hossegor & Mundaka and Costa Rica has Pavones.

The drive down the coast from Dominical is very picturesque and tropical. You immediately start to see fewer tourists and more greenery. Heading down to Pavones is a classic Costa Rica drive; you drive through forests, plantations, dodgy ferries and bridges. Pavones has the longest left in Costa Rica.

When the swell goes in the right direction, you can connect to different sections, for an 800 meters long ride. There are some fast and solid left breaking waves. When waves reach 4 feet high it becomes fun to ride.

The surroundings are exceptionally picturesque and I really recommend hiring a boat over to the peninsula de Osa. De Osa is the only indigenous forest left in Costa Rica on the pacific side. This is the place if you want to find macaws in the wild. On your way over you might be lucky to spot some whales and dolphins.

I am going to Costa Rica on an Adventure Trip…any suggestions??

December 29th, 2009

Ok I am going to Costa Rica, this is my first time traveling there so what should I pack?? I know I need to get my malaria shot but is there anything else I might need to do?? Also what should I pack? I will be going through the jungle so I realize that I will need shorts, and tennis shoes and other comfortable and light clothing. I am openn to any suggestions on things I
Thank-You and have a Blessed Day!!

When you get bored of Costa Rica, visit Panama, which is at hand, you can go to Bocas del Toro, great place, with Antillean environment, Boquete in Chiriqui highlands, the world’s best coffee is produced there (I am not saying, the experts say). If you want to know the Panama Canal, you can see that location or if you want to know Panama City, you’ll be amazed its modernization. There are other places such as Colon or the jungles of Darien. Another place, Pedasí, Where live riches and famous, Coiba National Park, after the Galapagos Islands is the second where there are large nature reserves, marine fauna and flora, unique in the world, and so on. It’s better than Costa Rica.

Why airfare from SFO via Denver to Costa Rica is 50% cheaper then same day Denver to Costa Rica flight?

December 16th, 2009

When I look up the airfare to fly from San Francisco to Costa Rica on Jan 24, 2010, I find $297 with stop-over in Denver.
But when I look up the price from Denver to Costa Rica on the same day, I can only get $453.

Does such difference make any sense to anybody?
Only one segment in 50% more expensive, then the longer flight with connections, containing it.
How the airfares are calculated?

Because a DEN-SJO flight is viewed as a different product than a SFO-DEN-SJO flight, and products are generally priced at the maximum the airline thinks the public will pay for them.

Perhaps some other airline offers nonstop SFO-SJO, so not very many people would want to go via Denver when they don’t have to. The decrease in demand for that routing would lead to a decrease in price.

On the other hand, lots of airlines offer DEN-somewhere-SJO. The fact that the DEN-SJO flight you mention is nonstop makes it more desirable than those, so naturally the price will be higher.

In other words, it doesn’t really have to do with the cost of providing the service…except that if the price people are willing to pay is less than the price it costs the airline to provide the service, then the airline will pull out of the market.

A lot of people get around this buy driving down to Colo. Springs and flight COS-DEN-wherever they want to go. Likewise, when an ORD-somewhere nonstop flight is expensive, some people drive up to Milwaukee and fly MKE-ORD-somewhere to save money.

I agree it’s kind of stupid…it would be a lot simpler if they just charged us all $0.12/mile.
