What should be in my Travel Medicine Kit for Costa Rica?

January 29th, 2010

We are traveling to Costa Rica in April and we will tour the Guanacaste area, Arenal area,Manuel Antonio Area, and maybe the Monteverde Cloud Forest.
What have you taken to Costa Rica in your Medicine Kit and what did you think you should have taken along ???

I know the CDC Website and I have seen it. I just would like personal info/experience. THANKS!

I recommend drinking bottled water no matter where you are in the world, we’ve managed to destroy a large part of are fresh water, and i hate to be the one to say this but Costa Rica is no exception. they burn there garbage on the side of the road and only 20 percent of the sewage is treated.
As for your travel kit, Rehydration salts are great it gets hot!! and they work good for hangovers to. Sunblock is also a must. and if your gonna be way out in the jungle take some antibiotics, Cipro is a great all purpose antibiotic. lastly don’t worry about Malaria if you have some travel nurse telling you otherwise I would save my money its very rare. You should also no that you can buy what you need when you get to Costa Rica pharmacy’s are very cheap and you don’t need a prescription

Scooter or motorcycle rental in Costa Rica?

January 29th, 2010

Does anyone know anything about renting scooters or motorcycles in Costa Rica for more than a day? What would I need to rent one? How much could I expect to pay?

You can rent scooters in some beach towns: Jaco, Puerto Viejo, …

In San Jose you can rent motorcycles from Wild Rider: http://www.wild-rider.com/our-motorcycles/

Where can I buy/download a GPS road map of Costa Rica for use with my Garmin C340 GPS?

January 29th, 2010

I don’t think it is available.

City Navigator NT includes the same detailed maps, points of interest and coverage areas as our traditional City Navigator map data, just compressed differently for your compatible Garmin. Some versions of City Navigator NT, such as North America and Europe, include traffic data that allows certain units to use traffic receivers.

Anyone know of a luxury location (hotel or resort beach front) in Miguel Antonio Beach, Costa Rica.?

January 29th, 2010

I’m planning a wedding and am looking for a beautiful almost celebrity type luxury location.

If you are looking at luxury, these are probably some of the best hotels in all of Costa Rica – that is if you are talking about Manual Antonio area ;-)

http://www.sicomono.com/
http://www.hotelparador.com/ ( don/t be surprise if you see someone famous at this hotel, many celebrities vacation here)

Have a great wedding in one of the worlds best countries!

BEST fishing in Costa Rica ?

January 29th, 2010

We are traveling to Arenal, Manuel Antonio and MonteVerde
we love to fish and want to find the best fishing in Costa Rica in those areas. Freshwater preferred, but Saltwater also ok.

Well you are going to two great locations for fishing. Lake Arenal is Fresh water and Quepos has some of the best Sail fishing and off-shore charters.

Here is a link where there are two companies offering these tours.

What is the weather like in Costa Rica the first week of June? Will the rainy season be bad then?

January 29th, 2010

I am planning a trip and don’t want to have it ruined by the weather!!

The "rainy season" means it rains , basically on a daily basis. It is not monsoons where it rains constantly for days. Here it will rain daily but at about the same time every day. Right now it is raining in the evenings, for an hour or so. By June it will probably rain in the afternoon. It depends on where you are. I’m in the Zona Sur , southern zone in a town called Golfito. We’re right on the Golfo Dulce. But from almost anywhere you can see the sky, ergo know when the rain is coming. Normally the showers are 1 – 1 1/2 hours then it stops.
When I left the US people said ( I came here from Key West lol), "What will you do when it rains?" response " SAme as I do here >>> If I have an umbrella I open it >> if not I get wet >>> but is warm rain >>>> But basically I stay where I am till it stops >>>
Here the Ticos cal a light sprinkle " Pelo de Gatos" >>>> very misty rain cat hairs. When it POURS and visibility is impared they call it "Agua Cero" no rain but they mean no visibility. In Golfito the island about 1/4 mile in front gradually white outs during "Agua cero" then it gradually fades back in. >>> Rainy season it better then dry season.

Where can I advertise a property investment in Costa Rica?

January 29th, 2010

My brother is living in CR & has offered me an interesting opportunity in Punta Leona.

A condo in Villas Paraiso for US$70k – it’s next to the new Ramada Hotel under construction & when finished will automatically re-evaluate all neighbouring properties by double in 2 years. A totally furnished & equipped beach condo with a 10% guaranteed rental income sounds quite hard to beat.

Can anyone recommend a good website to advertise this opportunity?

Craigslist.org is a great place to put a FREE listing, and it has Costa Rica on it too! You should list it in your home state, and in Costa Rica. This would be a great vacation spot!

What’s the best part of Costa Rica to stay at for vacation?

January 29th, 2010

I am planning on a vacation to Costa Rica in december. If I want to mainly just stay within one region of Costa Rica to relax and enjoy nature + beaches, what’s the best region? Thanks

I would recommend Puerto Viejo via Puerto Limon personally, as it is tucked in the south east corner between the beautiful Caribbean ocean and one of the countries larger National parks. As well it is less industrialized and touristy then many pacific cities.

Otherwise i would recommend Monte Verde and Tamarindo. Monte Verde is a mountain town with the best zip lines in the world and fantastic eco tours. Tamarindo is a popular beach tourist town on the pacific coast with all the luxuries of western civilization.

Puerto Viejo is more tranquillo but more out of the way. I prefer the Caribbean ocean to the pacific but both are nice.

Either way you will have at least half a day of traveling from the San Jose Airport
