In the Northern Pacific region….. I heard this area is a little drier since we will be traveling down there in October. I was looking into Barcelo Tambor resort but it’s like 4 hours from San Jose Airport. We wanted to cut some of our commute time so we are thinking of flying into Liberia. Anyone been to any resorts/hotels in the North Pacific region? It’s hard to tell how they actually are just by going online and looking at pictures.
Looked at the Flamingo beach, Langosta beach and a few others.
I’m interested in the Playa Paradisus… looks really nice, but is it really worth an extra grand?
Going on a honeymoon so I’m not traveling with children.

Barcelo has a resort in Langosta Beach, on the Nicoya Peninsula which will cut your travel time if you are going to fly into Liberia. To be honest, the pictures don’t do the place justice. When my wife and I were there, the service was incredible, the food fresh, the staff courteous and friendly, the rooms were big and had all the amenities, the activities were fun….it was everything that we had expected and more. And that’s just the hotel. You can walk up and down the beach, and you will find secluded spots where you and your new bride can get to know one another and spend quality time together and alone. The water will be around 80 degrees. You will almost feel as if you own the beach. I mean, how much more does anyone need? Oh! And you can contact the hotel and make arrangements for them to go pick you up at the airport!
The only downside that I see is that if you are coming this time of the year, it is still the rainy season. The area that Barcelo Langosta Beach is in does transition a bit sooner into the dry season, but you can still expect rain. It may not be as much as in other places, but you never know with Costa Rica. I once went to Barcelo Tambor and it rained for the four days we were there. But that’s not to say that spending wonderfully rainy days with your wife doesn’t have its charm either.
Added to all that is the fact that it is the off season. Less tourists, less Ticos, more time to yourself and your wife.

I love the beach and swimming in the ocean, and I REALLY would love to try the cable zip line experience! Any and all suggestions are appreciated!!
I’d like to go somewhere that’s not more than an hour or so from a "major" airport. Anywhere on the ocean, and where I have access to the zip-lining thing. We’ll probably go in July. For 5 days maybe.
Would July be a bad idea, is it too rainy then?
I understand that the excursions will cost extra, and we might have to pay for a bus/cab/flight to the hotel from a major airport. That’s okay. All in all, I think this option is still WAAAYYYY cheaper than a Greece vacation (which is my other option, but I’d rather wait until I have more savings for that one).

I don’t really recommend all-inclusive vacations in Costa Rica. They are usually very environmentally UNfriendly. For example… The Allegro Papagayo Resort was shut down for illegal waste disposal. They are so big and produce so much it is not ecologically sustainable.

If you want to explore the rain forest and see the beautiful country that is here in Costa Rica, I think you can manage to do it with $50 per day.

If you go to a travel agencie that books hotel/flight packages, (sun fun vacations etc) they will have CHEAP charter flights available at the last minute because they want to at least fill up the plane even if they do not get your hotel/ all-inclusive booking.

SO… Flight booked charter: $400 (seriously this is possible)

$50 for 10 days: $500

this leaves you with and extra $100 emergency cash.

You may have to stay in hostels and cheap hotels, but its worth it!

Moon shiva has great hummus and falafel, a nice change from the regular rice and beans of the local cuisine
