Can someone claim property distribution after 35 years since the divorce in the state of Texas?

In 1972 my Costa Rican mom divorced her American spoce and move back to Costa Rica. She recently found her divorce papers an a decree states that her ex husband shall sell the properties acquire during the marrige, being a house and also a one half interest in a business bulding. The decree of divorce provided that her ex husband shall pay her one-half of any equities derived from the sales of such properties. She hasn´t recevied a dime for such sales. Is there anything she can do from Costa Rica after 35 years since there divorce?

Yes. The amount of time that has transpired is irrelevant. She is still entitled to the terms of the divorce decree.

From Costa Rica, she should hire a Texas attorney to pursue her claims. The attorney will charge more now than he would have thirty-five years ago, but whatever her claim is against her ex-husband she can still attach. The lawyer will know how to do this. She may not earn the interest on the money since then, but she’s still entitled to the money. (A good lawyer will also get the interest, which by now will be more than the original amount.)
It is possible (although unlikely) that the court is still holding the money for her. Her ex- should have sent the money to your mother, but if he couldn’t find her, he could have given the money to the court, who would have hired a local attorney (usually) to be a trustee for her.
I can’t tell you what did happen, only what might have happened. The lawyer will know after a few days of searching.
Expect the attorney to cost you about $500.00, which will need to be paid up-front, or 50% of the amount owed if you don’t pay in advance.

sOs Discrimination in workplace??

ok this is my story, i’m cuban and have been in this country (usa) only for 2 and a half years, i just started in a new job, car dealership, the owner is a very nice person, but he has a sales manager that in from costa rica but was raised in NJ. he don’t want to speaks in spanish never, and think that he is american, i have seen him talking about people in contemptuous way respecting their origin and how knowledge about this country. i understand that of course there is no way even with the 4 years of english that i studied in my country i can know all the words and pronounce them in the best way.
well today i had entered something on the system and he asked me about it and i told him what it was and asked him if he knew what it means in front of other peoples, thinking that propably i wrote the word wrong, well, he got all dramatic and told me in front of everybody ("you are new in this country and you are asking me if i knnow the word??"), it felt really contemptuous from him. cont
i felt humiliated in front of everybody and just left, what do you think about this?? please give me any advice

Take out his background and country of origin and yours as well and you will see that this is nothing more than rude, inconsiderate jerk who probably believes he is better than you.

Nevertheless, he still owes you the same courteous, professional respect that he would give to any other coworker.

Continue to do your job in the professional manner that you have always.

Wishing to obtain a passport but concerned about felony records barring me. What is criteria?

Recently released from prison in the past year on a drug sale [2nd dg.] and traffic charge[1st dg.] and will not have civil rights restored for quite some time in the state of Fla.. I also have [1st dg.] robbery [2nd dg.] con. fel. pos. of firearm and [3rd dg.] pos with int. to dist. Last but not least federal chrges pos w. int. to dist. marijuana and consp. w. intent to possess marjuana. ie. importation/ smuggling. With that does anyone know whether or not it would be possible to legally obtain a U.S. passport to visit family in Thailand or Costa Rica? I am not on any supervision but I am concerned because of the nature of these charges and the degrees of such. Any info would be greatly appreciated and save much time. Thank you for your time. Getting a passport is one thing, but getting an entry visa is quite another. Your P.O. will be able to tell you what you can do about getting a passport, when or if. If you are completely without a P.O., then I doubt you will have a problem getting the passport. But you can bet that Thailand, especially, won’t welcome you if then know about your history!

We are an experienced manufacturer rep firm expanding into Central America specializing in IT and consumer electronic products. We represent the manufacturer and sell to wholesalers and resellers for a flat commission percentage.
