What type of rice do they eat in Costa Rica?

March 10th, 2010

I recently traveled to Costa Rica and stayed in a home for 2 months. I fell in love with the food! Now that I’m back in the United States I want to cook some of the food that I ate.

Does anyone know what type of rice they eat? It seemed to be longer than normal Minute Rice. Also, where can I find it in the U.S?

It is similar to Louisiana long grained rice.

No rice in the world is like Minute Rice, a over processed food-like product made from rice.

I wish to buy a small, simple Tico home in Costa Rica for less than $30000 that is move in ready.?

March 9th, 2010

I love to saltwater fish. If I could live close enough to walk to a river where snook and tarpon are present it would be a dream come true. I do not drive so stores and facilities would have to be within walking distance. I would like to buy a comfortable home in decent condition within the next three or four months. Can anybody provide names of local realtors in Costa Rica or unadvertised websites?

Cheapest one i saw was for $125k
You should go there and search for yourself because there is such a huge risk of being ripped off and the authorities might not care about what you lost

When I bring coffee home from Costa Rica, do I have to ship it to myself?

March 7th, 2010

I have heard that I have to do that. Am I allowed to just stick it in my bag? Or what do I need to do with customs?
Thanks.
:)

I brought home three bags without any problems. You should be fine. If your coffee is from Cafe Britt, you may be able to order it there and have some sent home to you. If you buy enough (usually six bags) you can get free shipping. It’ll save you some room in your bags.

…I’m so jealous. I miss Costa Rica. Oh, and I love the Poas coffee from Cafe Britt.

What does it cost to rent a small but nice home in costa rica?

February 28th, 2010

by small but nice i mean 2 to 3 bedrooms, a garage, safe neighborhood, home in good shape, etc.

It depends exactly where you go in Costa Rica.

Things are about a third cheaper in CR than here in the States and a person can live like a King for only $600.00 a month USD!

But – Its just like any other country and the prices will vary with – Location, Location, Location!

In Quepos for example, on the Pacific side you could probably find something like this for around $350.00 USD a month but in San Jose and in some of the upper class suburbs it would probably cost you around $450.00 – $500.00 USD.

Good Luck!
