I am a U.S. citizen and I need financing for a vacation home in Costa Rica? Know a reputable mortgage company?
I would like to find a reputable mortgage company to finance my vacation home in Costa Rica. 100% financing would be GREAT!!!
If you’re wealthy enough to be talking about coast rica then you’re an idiot for asking us (Poor folks) on yahoo about this stuff. I’m poor & black & dont know nothing about buying property there. but I’d suggest you just talk this over with you’re financial advisor or a reputable bank. I’d hate for you to run into some con artist that makes you as poor as me. Just some good advice for you.
Build a house near a Volcano in Costa Rica???
I just visited Costa Rica and saw people building homes near the many volcanoes there. Are they totally bonkers??
Or are volcanic eruptions so rare that you just don’t care if your new house gets wiped out 1,000 or 1,000,000 years from now, or whatever?
How far from a volcano would be "safe", or does it totally depend?
if other people are building near there then it is ok, becuse then they can all die together.

What can a student bring to exchange family in Costa Rica?
16 yr old son spending a few weeks in a Costa Rican home. What kind of small gift can he bring the host family? The group he goes with only suggested "small" gift. Any ideas are welcome!
THX
Well, although it may say "small gift"remember that this family will be your son’s family for a few weeks and they will treat your son as one of their one. So as a token of your appreciation you can send some nice, small things together with a letter ot thanks you note, from mother to mother, thanking her for taking good care of your son.
Coffee table books are always appreciated, specially if they are from your state, or show something about your history, local flora and fauna, etc. If there’s a dad or boys in the house, nice Tshirts with a sport logo, etc. Things from your homeland, things which mean something to you. For the mum something nice like a perfume or body lotion, and then I would suggest sending some smaller gifts which your son could give to any friend he makes while living in Costa Rica. Like baseball caps, or other tshirst, or some nice cd’s, anything for 16 years old. You never know how many friends your son will make while there so better be prepared and have something. Maybe some sweets, boxes of chocolates, anything small.
Costa Rica is not a forsaken country in the middle of the jungle so no towels are needed! And by the way, there are Victoria Secret products down there!!!!

Does anyone have any comments about studying abroad in Costa Rica?
I have not applied yet, but I am intending to study abroad in Costa Rica at Veritas Universidad. I will be living with a host family so that I can practice my Spanish. I am not really sure where Veritas is or what it is like to live there so any comments and/or advise are welcomed. Thank-you!
Also any suggestions about how to fit in and what to expect in a Costa Rican home are greatly appreciated.
Do you always answer in all caps? Because it makes you sound very rude.
Just out of curiosity, what do you mean when you say dangerous? Should I be concerned as a woman walking around alone? how can avoid any bad situations?
thank-you for all you help by the way!:)
Veritas is a wonderful university. The students there are really nice in general and artsy and cool. Got lotsa friends there and theyre always welcoming to other people.
Veritas is located in Zapote, which is like 2 minutes away from San Pedro, a major district with lots of entertainment, shopping, bars, etc.. Not the safest part in Costa Rica, but youll be ok if you take care and dont hang out there alone.
It´s about 5 minutes away from the Capital San Jose, which isn´t really a pretty sight, but I guess it can be convenient at times. Living there in Los Yoses-Zapote is generally nice. Quiet yet pretty much as urban as costa rica can be, dangerous when you dont know your way around, when youre on your on, and at night. But mostly cool place with many nice cool people.
To fit in Costa Rica, don´t talk like USA is the greatest thing to ever have happened in the world. Cause, well, it gets annoying and its rude to kinda be talked to as less of a person or country. Don´t dress with shorts, a sweatshirt and flip flops all the time, thats too stereotypical tourist. If youre under 21 and its your first time drinking, dont drink too much or be slutty, cause thats generally not appreciated worldwide I guess. After meeting people a couple of times, in friend basis, its ok to greet with a kiss cheek to cheek. Don´t ask for american beers at bars. drink local!Be corteous and open minded. Study hard at school, its a very hard one! and just enjoy your stay!
As of what to expect in a Costa Rican home, its very relative, in general, be polite, respect curfews if there are any, taste the food before you reject it. Do nice things like making your bed or washing the dishes every so often.
What type of rice do they eat in Costa Rica?
I recently traveled to Costa Rica and stayed in a home for 2 months. I fell in love with the food! Now that I’m back in the United States I want to cook some of the food that I ate.
Does anyone know what type of rice they eat? It seemed to be longer than normal Minute Rice. Also, where can I find it in the U.S?
It is similar to Louisiana long grained rice.
No rice in the world is like Minute Rice, a over processed food-like product made from rice.

I wish to buy a small, simple Tico home in Costa Rica for less than $30000 that is move in ready.?
I love to saltwater fish. If I could live close enough to walk to a river where snook and tarpon are present it would be a dream come true. I do not drive so stores and facilities would have to be within walking distance. I would like to buy a comfortable home in decent condition within the next three or four months. Can anybody provide names of local realtors in Costa Rica or unadvertised websites?
Cheapest one i saw was for $125k
You should go there and search for yourself because there is such a huge risk of being ripped off and the authorities might not care about what you lost
