I am wondering if anyone has gone to Costa Rica. What was it like? Did you stay at an All-Inclusive resort? Do you know any good but reasonable All-Inclusive resorts there?

We are thinking of going there for our honeymoon next September……if anyone has info or experiences…please share.

A good all inclusive hotel in Costa Rica is the Barcelo Playa Tambor. Because of the many eco tourism options that exist in Costa Rica, the all-inclusive hotels are not as popular as in other Countries, but if you really want all inclusive the Barcelo Tambor is my recommendation.

If you are willing to travel a little more I would like to suggest a honeymoon itinerary:
First stop : Hotel Finca Rosa Blanca in Heredia, not far from the San Jose airport
Next stop: Tabacon HotSprings Resort and hotel, this place is amazing
Final beach stop, any hotel at Tamarindo Beach, nice mix of beach and Costa Rican flavor

My fiance and I are thinking about going to Costa Rica for our honeymoon the 2nd week of October. We are looking for a place that is by the beach and is 4 or 5 star, possibly all inclusive, but doesn’t have to be. Also, two of the things we would like to do is the Canopy zip lines and the ATV tour. From reading others answers, I can’t figure out a town that is safe to walk and explore the town yet with everything I mentioned above.

I have decided I think on Manuel Antonio. I also like tamarindo but not sure which one to choose!

Well you are being pretty specific, i’m not entirely sure on where you could go to. But what you could do is visit 2 or 3 different places. You could go to a hotel in Guanacaste, you want a 5 star, so probably you want to stay in he Four Seasons, or maybe Paradisus Playa Conchal, both a very nice hotels. Then if you want to do the ATV tour and Canopy, you probably want to go to Arenal, there are some very nice hotels there too for example Tabacon which is the most famous one, it has hot springs inside the hotel and an very good view of the volcano. Another place you could probably Canopy and ATV at is Monterverde, which is also very nice, but its cold so i dont think you want that.

And yes, October is not only very rainy, its the rainiest season here. But you are going to the pacific side which is always pretty dry so it won’t be too bad.

We are trying to decide on a honeymoon location and I really like what Costa Rica has to offer as far as beaches and wildlife/scenery/adventure. However my wedding is June 13th so would we even be able to enjoy it being in the rainy season?

You would be right around the time when the "veranillo de San Juan" or St. John’s little summer comes in. It is a time around the end of June and beginning of July when we get around 10 days of dry season conditions. In any event, if you are staying at a beach hotel, it will be much drier than in the Central Valley. You can enjoy warm and sunny mornings at the beach or pool-side. The rain will come in at around 1 pm. You can go in, shower, eat lunch, take care of honeymoon business after lunch, and enjoy a great, warm and very tropical evening. Look, I went with my wife on our honeymoon at the end of October. it’s the worst month in Costa Rica for rain. But it only rained one night. The rest of the time was warm, sunny and so damn beautiful that we even paid for an extra day. We are going back in a few days. Oh! We have stayed at the Barcelo Tambor Beach and Doubletree by Hilton in Puntarenas. Go to the Barcelo Hotel, whether in Tambor or in Langosta Beach. You will be glad you spent the money and the memories will hopefully last a lifetime. TicosLand wishes you a wonderful wedding and a great marriage.

I’m getting married in August. I know it’s the rainy season down there but I live in Florida. I’m used to that. Here’s what I’m looking for: The friendliest locals. The ability to have quality site seeing close by. White sand and coral reef. Along with a town that can offer good food and a little night life.

There are many beaches to choose from, but I would definitely not go to the city of Puntarenas, as it is probably the least attractive city in Costa Rica! Perhaps you are referring to the province of Puntarenas, which is a very big province with many many good beaches. Either way, there are very few white sand beaches in Costa Rica, so I wouldn’t insist on going to a white sand beach necessarily, as it may limit your choices.
Tamarindo is a very very beautiful beach town, with world class hotels, but it is also very Americanized and over developed, so it no longer has a very local feel to it.
I would probably recommend going to another, somewhat less popular, beach in the Nicoya Peninsula, or to Manuel Antonio, which is world famous for many good reasons.

My fiance and are going on our Honeymoon to Costa Rica. We want to go to the carribean side of CR because we’ve been to the pacific side. We’re athletic and adventurous. We love to ride boogey boards, and I want to learn to surf a real surfboard. We really want great beaches, great restaraunts and food, maybe some deep sea fishing, amazing scenery, whitewater rafting, zip lines, and just an all around super chill fun time.

Any suggestions? I’ve heard Peurto Viejo is pretty sweet but it’s a 4 hour drive from the airport which isn’t horrible but we’re looking for other suggestions just as well.

Puerto Viejo is fun and beautiful. It has everything you are looking for. The only problem is that long bus ride from San Jose (it will be more than four hours). One option is to spend your first night in SJ, and taxi from your hotel to the bus station for an early bus. to PV. If you do that, I suggest the Best Western that is close to the bus station. It is in a bad neighbor hood so you can’t walk, but it is close to the bus station. So take the taxi from the airport to the bus station, buy your ticket for the next day, then go on to the hotel.

Once you get to PV, you will want to go to the Beach Break. It is the surfer’s beach and there are hotels and restaurants along that road. The bus will go right by it, on its way to (the end of the line) Manzanillo. It will stop in the town and then continue on down the road. There is a jungle path from the town to the beach that is cool. The drive down that road is pretty cool too. You can get off the bus anywhere you want. Just pull the cord and the driver will stop about a hundred yards past where you pulled it.

Also, for a fun day, if you rent a bike or moto, you can take that road down to Manzanillo (it is about 12 miles) and they have great beaches there, four restaurants and less night life, but fun. It is cool to stop along the way and listen to the Howler Monkeys, the birds and the sound of the surf coming through the jungle. There are a lot of little coves with deserted beaches along that road. They are easy to find if you’re driving a scooter.

In PV, there is a lot of night life as well as beach action. It is a cool place. You can do rafting, zip lines as well as the beach. There used to be a restaurant there run by a young Brit. They did laundry and served a great breakfast and the best coffee in town.

Just be on your guard at all times. Tourists are targets in CR. You’re prime if they think you have a lot of cash. Take your oldest clothes and wear them while you are there. I’m not kidding. I never got robbed but a lot of people have. Still, it is a beautiful place and you’ll love it.

We are travelling in november and doing a 14 day tour that takes in carribean coast, volcano, and pacific coast. we want to know what to expect with weather accomodation and locals

Temps will be in the 70s and 80s during that time of year and cloudy with some rain every now and then but not enough to worry about.

Locals are great! Especially the ones that can speak English which is about 50% of them!

You will have the time of your life!

Bring your camera/cam and be prepared to take lots of pics!

Have a real good Trip!

I will be leaving for CR in three weeks!
