I’m booking a hotel room in Costa Rica. Does "single" refer to the number of rooms or the size of the bed?

For example next to a standard room it will say "single" or "double." Can someone clarify this for me?

it more related at the number of guest in the room. So if you pay for a single room just one person can guest on it, but if you pay for a double room two people can be there.

ussually single and double room are the same (with a double bed or two single beds), the only difference it’s if you go with someone else (and want to share the room with him(her) or not).

Costa Rica?

Where is a good place to go and stay in Costa Rica? Best destination and hotel?

Oh I’m afraid I have to disagree very strongly with the last poster – Costa Rica not a destination if you want luxury? That is completely untrue, there are a host of luxury resorts, hotels and private villas all across the Pacific coast of the country. To name a few – The Four Seasons in Guanacaste, Los Suenos resort near Jaco, Tulemar Bungalows in Manuel Antonio and the Barcelo resort in Tambor.

Anyhow, I could go on, but I’m not sure that is what the poster is looking for.

I have lived in this country for 9 years, and some of my favourite recommendations would be:

1 – Manuel Antonio and Quepos
For beautiful beaches, frequent monkey sightings, lush jungle and plenty of tourist amenities like restaurants, hotels and villas. Best hotel in the area I would probably say Tulemar Bungalows, but the real way to go is to rent a villa.

See http://www.ricarent.com for a host of villas in this area, from budget to luxury.

2 – Malpais and Santa Teresa
Not so developed as Manuel Antonio, but a charming place. Again, beautiful white beaches and a great traveller vibe.

3 – Volcano Arenal
A must for anyone travelling to Costa Rica. Visiting this volcano is so fascinating – at night you can see it spewing out red hot lava whilst you sip a cocktail whilst bathing in a volcano heated swimming pool.

4 – Puerto Viejo
For a different flavour, this is a great little spot on the caribbean coast.

I have written various articles on Costa Rica which may be of interest to you, see the following links:

Can anyone tell me what hotel in costa rica is better. Flamingo or Ocotal or Fiesta Premier Resort Papagayo?

Fiesta Premier Papagayo

Should I make hotel reservations for Costa Rica in December?

My brother and I are going to the north Western end of Costa Rica for the last week in Nov and the first Week of Dec.

We are pretty cheap and don’t care that much about where we sleep.
Do you think we would be ok winging it. Or should we really have set plans on where to stay?

This is CR’s busy season. I always go off season – so I’m not sure how booked it will be in the areas you are going. But prices can go up during season, so it might be cheaper to choose and reserve the places you want to stay rather than getting stuck with whats available – which might not be within your budget.

are there good cheap hotels in costa rica?

I want to go to Costa Rica in December. Where can I get good hotel deals on both coasts. Do I need to make reservations or can I move about freely from day to day?

Yes, you can travel freely. always have- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OtKfCLeBXlk

But, if it is during the holiday week then I would say no.

Looking for a decent hotel near San Jose Costa Rica airport?

Hi. We are arriving around noon into San Jose and our Sansa flight leaves the next morning. Can anyone recommend a decent hotel at less than $100, in walking distance from the airport? An added bonus would be one also in walking distance from San Jose sights/food.

I’m not sure what the area is like, maybe walking distance isn’t reasonable, in that case short cab ride.

Seriously don’t stay at the Hampton Inn – why would you travel to a foreign country and then want to stay at a sterile american chain hotel?

I like the Orquideas Inn 10 minutes away from the airport in Alajuela. I’ve stayed there 6 times and have never been disappointed. The hotel is on an old coffee plantation with nicely manicured grounds and trails to walk on. They have a nice pool and jaccuzi and a great Marilyn Monroe theamed bar.
A great buffet breskfast is included with the ost of the room and is served out by the pool in the mornings.

They offer a shuttle service to/from the airport for $10 for 1-4 persons. An you could take a taxi into the main part of Aljuela for about $3

I’ve always stayed in one of the "roadside rooms" which are laong the main road that runs by the hotel property. It gets a fair amound of noise form the trucks heading down the hill in the mornings but it never bothered me too much.
