Has anyone ever been to Escazul Costa Rica or stayed at the Beacon Escazul Hotel?
I’m planing a trip to Costa Rica in Dec, we have so far chosen a hotel in Escazul called Beacon Escazul can anyone give me some info on this city and hotel.
I think you are referring to Escazu’, no "L". The Beacon is the newest and probably nicest hotel in downtown area. Escazu’ is the Beverly Hills of Costa Rica. If shopping is your thing, there is the Multi Plaza Mall, 2 levels, 10 movie theaters, and many name brand stores you’ll find in the US, just without the large US anchor department store.
You’ll be in walking distance from a lovely inexpensive restaurant you will want to try called Casona de Leley. They serve Costa Rican Cusine, try a "casada" for lunch. If you want different types of food, try Plaza Itzcazu, there are at least 10 or more different ethic restaurants all with different types of food, all in the same plaza..
Closest sports bar, Time out Tavern, the gringo hangout, they have all the US football games on Saturday and Sunday. Or if you just want to meet up with some expats from the US, Canada and the UK. The other two are The Pub, and Bar Chi Chi’s.
For live music an dancing, try, Fandango’s in the Tres Montenegre’ Plaza , in front of Hypermas, live music Thurs thru Sunday night from 10 pm until closing. Best to make a reservation or get there a little early.
Escazu’ is relatively safe, however its best to take taxis after dark. And even though your hotel is close to the park, never cut through the park at night, any park in Costa Rica for that matter. Its just not smart.
My advice, book day trips with the front desk and get out of Escazu’ and see the rest of the country. Ask the front desk about the 4 in 1 tour, and Arenal day trips. Both are great sightseeing tours.
Costa Rica Tips, Tours, Hotel and Suggestion?
Hi,
We are going to Costa Rica in Nov and after doing research we have decided to visit these places in our 7 day trip. Monteverde, Arenal and Manuel Antonio. What I am looking for is suggestions tips on following:
1. Which hotels to stay in ? We are student and would like to save money.
2. Should we book tours when we get there and get student discount? Which tours should we do and how much it costs approximately
3. How many days to spend in these locations ?
4. Any other suggestions for these areas would be appreciated !
we are a two students and couple.
Thanks!
Just remember to take your student ID because it might help give you discounts on tours like the SkyTrek or Selvatura canopy tour in Monte Verde. They are both really nice but Sky Trek is like $75 per person and Selvatura is around $40 per person and those prices are without student ID so it might be even cheaper for you. Here is some Monte Verde Info and it also has info about Arenal http://www.monteverdeinfo.com/
You picked really nice places to see Manuel Antonio is also very beautiful. This link has a list of economical hostels in Manuel Antonio http://www.hostelworld.com/findabed.php/ChosenCity.Manuel-Antonio/ChosenCountry.Costa-Rica?source=googleadwordsnewdestinations&gclid=CIufsoCg9ZwCFY0vpAodcmCDQQ

GAY Protest- Gran Hotel Costa Rica Discriminates!
GAY Protest held outside the entrance of the Gran Hotel Costa Rica and next to the National Theater. It appears GRAND Hotel Costa Rica may want to consider providing its Security Staff with Sensitivity Training, or perhaps a Review of the current Costa Rican LAWS on the Books regarding the discrimination of Gays. Basically, two lesbians accuse the Security Staff of the Gran Hotel Costa Rica for harassing and discriminating against them for kissing outside the hotel in the square. The kicker, apparently it wasn’t even a ‘making-out’ type of kissing. How boring is that? Well these lesbians weren’t going to take it, so they got their gay ‘family’ and friends to stage a protest outside the Gran Hotel. It was very nice to see a good turn-out and BEST of all, many ‘younger’ gay Tico’s were present of show their SUPPORT. Now that’s what I call a step in the right direction.

Hotel Casa Marbella – Mal Pais, Santa Teresa, Costa Rica
Welcome to Casa MarBella Hotel Mal Pais Costa Rica. Experience the unprecedented beauty of local scenery at Hotel Casa Marbella Malpais, Costa Rica.
Comfortable ambiance in the midst of the Costa Rica tropics. Hotel Casa Marbella is a boutique hotel in Malpais Costa Rica, centrally located in Santa Teresa across the street from the beach overlooking the Pacific Ocean of Costa Rica.
Surrounding Area
Santa Teresa/Mal Pais Area
The towns of Santa Teresa and Mal Pais sort of blend together as one. There is only one main road that runs along the coast and for the first time it can be a bit confusing.
However, when most people say Mal Pais, they are referring to the Mal Pais/Santa Teresa area in general and use them interchangeably.
Santa Teresa is located in the southern tip of the Nicoya Peninsula in the Guanacaste region. It is characterized by broad, white sand beaches with picturesque backdrops around every corner and dramatic sunsets.
This area enjoys warm and clear water with world class waves available. The beach combing here is second to none. At lower tides you can find numerous tide pools hidden along the rock outcroppings complete with colorful tropical fish.
As you walk through town you will most likely encounter howler monkeys, iguanas, green parrots, red squirrels and birds of all types.
Once here, it is easy to see why these beaches were named the Top Ten Most Pristine Beaches in the World by Forbes magazine. It has earned the prestigious Bandera Azul (Blue Flag) ranking which is awarded to clean, ecologically friendly areas by the government.
Besides the natural scenic beauty, there are a variety of restaurants, bars, and shops making it a destination that has something for everyone. People from all over the world have all become neighbors and business owners in this little slice of Costa Rica.
