More specifically driving transportation driving from San Jose, Costa Rica all the way up here to the La Fortuna area, which is home to the Arenal Volcano, which is constantly erupting, which is why most of you come out here in hopes to see lava. So, if we can zoom on in to this map Ill walk you through on how to get from San Jose to La Fortuna.
As you can see San Jose is down here and up here to the north is the Arenal Volcano and right next to the Arenal Volcano is the town of La Fortuna which well be headed to today. Now, Costa Ricas not really known for their street names for instant if you look at this map here this main road that well be taking out of San Jose On one map it will be called the Inner-American highway, and on another map it might be called the Pan-American highway, and on a third map it will be labeled highway #1. So, for reference for this video and so you can fallow along better regardless to what map you have Im not going to label any of the roads that are on the map, and Im just going to let you know as far as how many miles to a certain point or the towns youll be passing through now the drive from San Jose to La Fortuna is anywhere from 3 hours to 3 ½ hours. Now Id recommend if possible to drive to La Fortuna in the morning, because later in the late afternoon and early evening those roads have been known to have heavy fog which reduces your visibility tremendously. Umm also there are three different routes to get to La Fortuna from San Jose so Ill be going through all three routes.

Downloaded a map from Garmin for my 660 GPS…They recommended an outfit in Florida……anyone use a Garmin down there?…….On my way next Friday for the month of February……..

Without knowing what you want the GPS for (driving, trail biking or hiking etc) I understand from a friend in CR who does a lot of tail biking, that the Garmin CR map is one that a few of his biking buddies use. However, keep in mind, they may be "somewhat" accurate in position (GPS) but not in direction if you know what I mean.

Driving in CR is a experience by itself. My friend informs me that it is not uncommon for the GPS to tell you to turn right, and the next thing you know you are heading the wrong way down a one-way street. Or it tells you, you are on a road/trail, where in fact you are standing in the middle of a stream. Road and trail conditions change what seems like daily, moreso when it rains. The recent earthquake made many detours that are and will not be programmed in the GPS. And there are many roads trails that are a must to take to get to point A to B that are also not programmed in the GPS.

If you are planning to use it for driving, you should be Okay, however if you are planning it for trail bike or hike, common sense tells you it is always best to get a local map and/or hire a guide.

When I visited Costa Rica as an exchange student, they company that I traveled with provided all the transportation and tickets and everything. Now that I would like to go back, I am not sure where to begin looking for info about buses and what not, because I plan on returning to a pretty small town that is probably not on most maps. Any good websites or personal advice? Thanks a koala.
I am planning on returning to San Pablo de Leon Cortez. It is part of the town known on most maps as "San Pablo". It is also located near San Marcos. Thanks a lot for you help so far!

come back to costa rica, dude. what type of info do you need on buses… just relax and come to enjoy. i know lots of people who have come and just adventure by going to one side and other. all the major bus stops are in san jose. what are your interests. what do you want to see or explore. just ask and i’ll try to give you that info as a hostels in a nice area…

Hey guys, Im DAngelo from http://TravelCostaRicaNow.com and today I have another travel tip for you todays travels tip is going to be about transportation.

Other countries share a single control center (such as Costa Rica, El Salvador and the rest of central america). There are also centers that control the airspace above international waters (such as "oceanic" centers). Where can I find a map of the world that depicts the boundaries of those Area Control Centers worldwide.
