Lap Sleeve Gastrectomy Abroad – Costa Rica Medical Tourism Testimonial

March 10th, 2010

http://www.medicaltourismco.com//weight-loss/bariatric-surgery.php
Peggy and Debra Berg, the mother-daughter duo from California, had their lap gastric sleeve operation in Costa Rica on the same day by the same bariatric surgeon in the same hospital. This video was recorded 11 months after their sleeve gastrectomy surgery in Costa Rica.
They had tried all kinds of diets like Weight watchers, south east diet, fruit diet, and so on. They also tried working out in the gym.
Because of their higher BMI, they had problems like knee pain and co-morbidities like high cholesterol, and high blood pressure.
But gastric sleeve in the US was beyond their budget. Another problem they faced was that Peggy was considered ineligible for bariatric surgery in the US. She was 70 years old when she got the surgery done; 60 is the cut-off for weight loss surgery in the US.
So, they researched on the net for cheaper options for sleeve resection surgery and found Medical Tourism Corporation. They decided on Costa Rica for their weight loss surgery and ended up saving about 40% of what theyd have to pay in the US.
Debra is pleased that Medical Tourism Corporation answered all the questions, and she asked many.
The hospital in Costa Rica to which they went had all the modern equipment and the staff was courteous and professional. There were always English-speaking people around them or they had interpreters. They stayed in private rooms at the hospital which were spacious enough for a companion.
Post-gastric sleeve surgery, Debra lost 80 pounds and Peggy 55. Their general health has improved drastically.
Other discount obesity surgeries Medical Tourism Corporation offers abroad are lap band, gastric bypass, and duodenal switch surgeries. Mexico, Belgium, and India are other popular bariatric surgery destinations surgery packages morbid obese surgery Costa Rica self pay bariatric surgery abroad cash price gastric bypass Costa Rica affordable bariatric surgery abroad obesity clinics Costa Rica bariatric centers Costa Rica Vertical Sleeve (Gastrectomy) surgery Costa Rica hospital clinica biblica CIMA San Jose Dr Jacobo Zafrani Dr. Carlos Francisco Quesada Ramirez Dr Mario Sainz Ramirez recovery time for gastric sleeve

WHat is Costa Rica like?

March 9th, 2010

My bf and I are planning a trip somewhere for one week in the middle of May. We are looking at Costa Rica as a possibility. We found a couple all inclusive packages to Liberia (Allegro Papgayo or Villas San Tol). We are just wondering what the weather, beaches and crime, wildlife and food is like there. Is it a good place to visit?? Has anyone stayed at any of the two resorts and if so how were they?

Costa Rica is a tropical paradise, plain and simple. It is also a Third World nation with lots of poverty. While crime is not rampant, you would do well to travel wisely. If you take a resort package, you are totally safe while on the premises.

I do hope you will take some side trips, though. The resort experience is very sterile and doesn’t truly give you a good sense of the people or the culture.

When you leave the premises of the resort, you should engage the services of a guide who can drive you and show you around. Check with the concierge to make these arrangements. Use common sense: do not venture into places that are not well populated; stay out of alleys and backstreets. Stay where you see tourists. Be mindful of your purse, camera, backpack, etc. Don’t lay things on the table at the cafe. Do not hang your purse on the back of a chair. Be wise and be careful.

There are a lot of websites that give loads of information about CR. You will find the people lovely and accommodating as tourism is a huge industry. The local cuisine incorparates a lot of local seafood and produce. (The fresh fruit is to die for and when you come home, you will no longer be satisfied by the rubbish we get at the supermarkets.)

The weather is fairly consistent: sunny, warm, pleasant with occasional rain each day. The beaches are pristine and unspoiled. Make sure you schedule a canopy tour in the rainforest. Spectacular fun!

I’ve not stayed at a resort anywhere and would not, simply because of the sterile environment, but I have traveled a great deal and am comfortable on my own in most places. Again, check the websites and check in with a travel agent to get more info.

Costa rica – seems to be all package tours – why ?

March 7th, 2010

Thinking of a family trip there and was wondering why there are so many package tours. Is there a reason not to plan and do yourself?

There are so many package deals because they sell. Costa Rica is a big travel destination currently, but some people that don’t travel much or are used to traveling to more European destinations are nervous about their first time in Latin America – so the package deals sell well. And they are generally a really good price.

I’m a bit of a travel control freak, so I prefer to do my own. Can’t say that I really save that much money though and the amount of time I put into planning is crazy. But at least I do what I want to do when I want to do it.

Can one travel to Costa Rica without the use of packaged tours?

March 5th, 2010

My wife and I are planning a 10 day trip to Costa Rica with our 18 month son. We have traveled but never done any of those packaged tours as we find them a bit restricting to what they want you to see and do. Most of what I see online for Costa Rica is referenced to packaged tours. Can one just buy air tickets, book hotels, rent a car, grab a good guide book (The New Key to Costa Rica) and be able to find canopy tours or other activities on their own once they arrive in Costa Rica? Or is it better to go with a packaged tour to ease the travel with an infant/toddler? We’d like to spend a few days each at Arenal, Monteverde and Caribbean coast (may be Limon/Tortuguero).

You can definately go it alone, try http://www.vamos4×4.com for your car and check out our 10 day tour itinerary at http://www.PacificLots.com/itinerary for ideas on where to go. Let me tell you, Arenal is ALMOST ALWAYS in the clouds and you can’t see the volcano. The area is overpriced and there is not much to do there except for overpriced tourist attractions like Tabacan and Baldi hot springs. If you check out the price for either of these attractions, you will see what I mean about overpriced. People go to Arenal because other people went there and tell you to go there. The same is true to a large extent with Monteverde. Monteverde is a cloud forest in an area that was colonized by Quakers. It is a long drive and although a very nice place, high altitude and a beautiful area with a good mix of birds and some animals, it is overrated. Try instead your first night at the Martino Hotel in Alejuala, rent a car and go the first day to Poas volcano for a day trip as well as La Paz Waterfall gardens. You’ll have to ask directions a bunch of times but better yet rent a GPS from Vamos when you get there. Then head to Jaco on the central pacific coast (totally skip Limon, dangerous, a port town, not much to see there, and skip Tortuguera unless you want to catch Tarpon, Snook and Mosquitos). Skip the east coast unless you are a surfer and want to head to Puerto Viejo and cross the border into Panama at Boca Del Toros and you are a gnarly rasta type and don’t mind dirty living, hot and humid and sketchy people. They call the east coast the Mosquito Coast and they call the west coast the gold coast. The west coast is more expensive but you can choose the level of expense you want to pay. Stay one night in Jaco at the Vista Pacifica Hotel and then head to Manuel Antonio, stay at the Costa Verde Hotel (expensive but worth it) or try Villas Nicolas. Be sure to go to the national park there, (closed Mondays) and get there early, wear bathing suits and bring food enough to get you through lunch and baby needs. Eat at the Marlin restaurant when you get out of the park, across from the beach, try the ceviche or black bean soup. Eat at the Barba Roja one night and have cocktails at sunset at the Mariposa Hotel (ask for directions to these places, all really close at 5 minutes or so). If you have 10 days, head to Dominical, stay at the Villas Rio Mar Hotel. If you want a good itinerary we run tours and provide hyperlinks to all hotels at http://www.pacificlots.com/itinerary or contact me off line at SteveatPacificlotsdotcom for more info. We sell land and custom homes in Costa Rica. Check out http://wwwpacificlots.com/slide-show

Things to take on vacation in Costa Rica?

March 2nd, 2010

My boyfriend and I are going to Costa Rica in August. We’re in a long distance relationship right now and i’ll see him once before we leave. I want to send him a package with some stuff to get him excited about the tip. What are things I could send him to make him think about vacation – or that he could use on vacation – that he might get some enjoyment out of now too? Thanks!

I love this idea! This would be something crazy I would do – and if I thought about it hard enough I can probably remember a time when I did!

1. Send him something practical with a twist. For instance, pick up one of those little first aid kits at the Dollar Store, then customize it. It should come with alcohol swabs and bandaids, but you could add chapstick, individual packets of Tylanol and Benedral, and (wink) condoms :) (course he won’t want to use this until he sees you!)

2. Make him a small day pack and fill it with stuff he might need. First aid kit, sunglasses, hat, etc

3. Most people when going to CR are going to play in the water or play in the dirt. If you are going to play in the water and he doesn’t have an underwater camera – maybe pick up an inexpensive or disposible underwater camera that you guys can use on the trip.

4. Email him CR pictures everyday before the trip or send him a digital frame with CR pictures and then he can replace the pictures with pictures of your trip when he gets back. If you don’t have any – let me know and I’ll send you some – just got back on Saturday.

Can’t think of anything else off the top of my head, but I hope this is helpful!

How To Send Postal Mail To Costa Rica?

February 28th, 2010

My friend lives NEAR San Jose Costa Rica. I asked her to give me her mailing address and she started laughing and said that there is no address because she lives outside the city. She said it is basically directions to the house. Has anyone on Yahoo answers been to Costa Rica and understand what she means? How could I get a package to her if there is no address?
THANKS!
"Areopostale"?
That really tells me nothing.
I need Details PLEASE!

You have 2 choices, 1) have your friend set up a PO box and then sent it to there or 2) You can send your package via one of the courier/package services such as UPS, DHL (who I have heard is excellent) or Fedex. Your friend can then pick it up at their nearest location in San Jose. The courier will give you the location of the pick-up center.

Rates depend on the size of the item. If you know the weight of the item, you can get the info from the any of the courrier websites (assuming you’re mailing from the US to these other places).
