Can anyone help me with some travel questions?

February 28th, 2010

Ok. so i am planning a vacation for me and my aunt. (for my 16th birthday) I would like to go somewhere in the caribbean. Costa Rica, Bermuda, Bahamas, anywhere. somewhere tropical. WE have about $4500 to spend on this vacation. it would be from November 1-8, 2009. for a week.
the $4500 would be spent on flight hotel possibly a rental car, food, and activities (snorkeling, swimming with dolphins, zipline tour, bungee jumping). is this do-able?

what are some good websites that have cheap deals? (flight+car+hotel or something)

OR would it be cheaper for me to go to a travel agency? would they be able to find me better deals and an overall cheaper vacation in the same destination?

thanks for your help. if you have any suggestions on where i should go i would love to here them because right now i have no idea. i just want a nice sunny beach and the tropics.
thanks.
any suggestions on which travel agency i should go to?

I would go to a travel agency, not only will they be able to give you great prices, they will also find a location/resort that will be the best fit for you. When you do it yourself online, you may not know that the resort that you just booked is under serious renovations and you will wake up to jackhammers pounding away all day, or the resort is family friendly and you will have to deal with screaming kids at the pool when you are trying to relax and get a tan. A travel agent will steer you away from these. I think Cancun would be lots of fun, I suggest this because I really like history and from the hotel zone you can visit mayan ruins like Chitzen Itza, its amazing. I’ve also heard good things about Costa Rica and Punta Cana, Domincan Republic because it tends to be cheaper than other Carribean islands because it is not as well known for its resorts.

As far as which travel agency I would suggest AAA, if you belong or if your aunt belongs (even if you don’t belong it may be worth it to get it because it will save way more than the 50 bucks it costs to join for a year) AAA is the biggest travel agency in the country and because it is so big, vendors, like resorts and cruise lines offer them better deals, because of the volume of customers they give to these vendors. You will also get member benefits like room upgrade or resort credit that you can use at the hotel for things like spa treatments. hope you have fun on your trip! Make sure your passport is valid or send away for one asap!!!

A complicated question: Next week my Husband, 12-week-old son & I are going to San Jose, Costa Rica?

February 24th, 2010

My husband is going to San Jose, Costa Rica for work.

The babe and I are tagging along for some low key adventures and will spend most days on our own ‘touristing’ in San Jose and the surrounding areas.

I have travelled extensively – alone and with other "grown ups". Historically, I have recieved a lot of attention in certain cultures… I am blonde/blue, 6′ tall and busty. With out being crass, I am sometimes tremendously ‘popular’ with guys that like to spell out current deficiencies in thier sex lives (e.g. the lack of a six foot blonde.)

Normally I am quite comfortable and confident in my own abillity to deal with the chatter and even the occaisional physical advance that needs to be rebuffed. However I am concerned to be potentially placed in these situations with my boy.

Trust me, I am not heading out at night, going to bars or wearing a mini-anything. With wedding band firmly attached and cool head on my shoulders, am I going to have problems?

just don’t travel alone. i believe you’ll do tours with other people… just relax and enjoy. as you said… you are not coming down here to go to bars or clubs. take care’

How does the travel agent process work?

February 23rd, 2010

I’m just curious how the process with a travel agent works.

I have found some pretty decent deals online for my trip to Costa Rica. I am curious if a travel agent can get me a better deal.

Am I able to go to a travel agent and get an estimate on what prices I’m looking at for tickets, hotels, etc., or do I have to sign up with one with a promise to pay their fee before I can hear what the trip will cost? I just don’t want to get stuck paying someone extra for the same price I could find online.

Thanks in advance!

Hello,
How are you? I am a travel agent http://www.cassandralanetravel.org
I don’t charge any extra fee-just pay for the cost of your trip.

Cheap/reasonable vacations to South America? Particularly Peru, Brazil, or Costa Rica.?

February 17th, 2010

Hi,
Anyone know of good deals, good websites, or good travel agents for vacations to South America? My family and I are looking to go. My eldest brother and I are both adults, my youngest brothers are 3, 11, and 15, step mom is 33 and dad is 42. We are looking for the best deal and can go anytime! We are open to suggestions for destinations and even combos of destinations– depending on the best deal. Any travel agent I’ve called seems unable to comprehend that we are so flexible– they won’t help us without specific dates and locations. Which seems ridiculous because if I do all that planning I might as well book the vacation myself.

well i would say you should go to colombia it is amazing and cheap, i dont know where you are from so i cant tell you what cheap flights you can get but avianca which is the national airline in colombia flies very cheap from madrid or from new york miami fort lauderdale chicago atlanta etc to bogota … i recommend you see places like villa de leyva, tayrona and the salt cathedral in zipaquira and go to cities like bogota, medellin, cartagena, cali etc

Some interesting places to travel where dogs are highly regarded as pets?

February 15th, 2010

Just got back from beautiful Costa Rica. Had a great time, but the amount of stray dogs was so upsetting, i don’t think i will go back. I love to travel and see different cultures, but cant deal with dogs being neglected/mistreated. Any suggestions?

I have not found a place yet that doesn’t have massive amounts of stray dogs. I went to Germany not too long ago and took my dog walking we had an entire pack following us the whole way I carried weapons from then on lol never had to use it they usually kept their distance unless I had food they would gather but most were friendly so I just left them alone and a lot of people in the town I was in actually put bowls of food and water out all over the city for them.
