Where to stay in Costa Rica w/5 adults?

February 17th, 2010

A group of 5 adults are going to Costa Rica for 11 days in May and are looking for inexpensive lodging that can house all five of us in one room/villa. We are wanting to stay in Playa Del Coco if possible. Surrounding areas are ok too. We are on a tight budget and are not looking for anything over the top, just a place to sleep. Any suggestions at all would be helpful!

hello
you can stay in Playa hermosa which is very close to playas del coco, please check www.hotelmangaby.com

Going to Costa Rica Mon, staying in Guanacaste at The Villas Sol. Should I exchange USD to colon? any tips?

February 5th, 2010

Anyone have any advice/tips? Is it wise to exchange my money to colones? a little of both? credit cards? Any places i HAVE to see, or to stay away from? THANX!!

No, there is no place in the whole country that you even need colones. You can take them out of an ATM, but you’re ok with dollars, especially in Guanacaste.

Searching for good advice from savey Costa Rica travelers?

February 3rd, 2010

We are considering taking an inexpensive vacation to Costa Rica in late March. Being rather independent and valuing our privacy at times, should we avoid the package deals and rent a car? We recently returned from Crete, where we stayed in a historical villa in a small village, and were able to explore as needed once we got use to the roads/stick shift,ect.. We want to hike in the rainforest and see the best of Costa Rica for $2000- $3000 including airfare, but not necessarily meals.. Two meals a day are more than adequate, and 7-10 days would be about right. We don’t particularly care about the beaches but want to see the volcano, butterflies and exotic flora/fauna/animals. It will be our 7th anniversary, and we are in our mid-50’s , so nothing TOO strenuous. Any suggestions, itineries, recommendations towards places to stay, tour, or eat, will be very much appreciated. We LOVE nature, natives, walking, coffee and chocolate!

We went on our honeymoon and had a great time. we rented a car – (a very rugged jeep and took out full insurance on the car so we would not have to worry about scratches)it was AWESOME

I would advise this route –
start at Arenal Volcano area – we stayed at http://www.tabacon.com/
we took an excursion on a little river boat and saw so much wildlife. this area is LOADED with natural hotsprings – it is just amazing.

Drive to Cloud Forest, Monteverde. We stayed at http://www.fondavela.com/
we did a canopy tour. This area is so cozy and you will truly feel like you are in the middle of nowhere but it is beautiful. It is the rainforest

Finally drive to Jaco area, we stayed at
http://www.centralamerica.com/cr/hotel/caletas.htm
you will be a short drive to Manuel Antonio which has a beautiful conservation park with tour guides. The park is the most famous in the country. And Jaco is a cute little beach town even if you do not go in the water.

By doing this you will see all CR has to offer – the volcano part, the rainforest, and the beachy part.
Even if you do not stay at these hotels, you can use them as a way to map out the trip and stay at less expensive ones

Where can I advertise a property investment in Costa Rica?

January 29th, 2010

My brother is living in CR & has offered me an interesting opportunity in Punta Leona.

A condo in Villas Paraiso for US$70k – it’s next to the new Ramada Hotel under construction & when finished will automatically re-evaluate all neighbouring properties by double in 2 years. A totally furnished & equipped beach condo with a 10% guaranteed rental income sounds quite hard to beat.

Can anyone recommend a good website to advertise this opportunity?

Craigslist.org is a great place to put a FREE listing, and it has Costa Rica on it too! You should list it in your home state, and in Costa Rica. This would be a great vacation spot!

Has anyone stayed at Villa Acacia in Playa Hermosa, Guanacaste, Costa Rica?

January 18th, 2010

I am having a hard time finding recent reviews of Villa Acacia in Playa Hermosa-it is my top choice for a place to stay, but would really like to hear someone’s recent experience. Tripadvisor’s most recent review is 2005. The website is great-but again, would love input on the town, the layout nearby, the beach itself…I know this is an obscure and specific request, but ya don’t know if you don’t ask, right?

didn’t stay there but it did come highly recommended by the re agent i was working with –the setup is very cute hex villas maybe 8 or so. I did eat lunch there once -food was good— close to the beach -aprox-1/4 mile -nice clean beach–good luck
