What should be in my Travel Medicine Kit for Costa Rica?

January 29th, 2010

We are traveling to Costa Rica in April and we will tour the Guanacaste area, Arenal area,Manuel Antonio Area, and maybe the Monteverde Cloud Forest.
What have you taken to Costa Rica in your Medicine Kit and what did you think you should have taken along ???

I know the CDC Website and I have seen it. I just would like personal info/experience. THANKS!

I recommend drinking bottled water no matter where you are in the world, we’ve managed to destroy a large part of are fresh water, and i hate to be the one to say this but Costa Rica is no exception. they burn there garbage on the side of the road and only 20 percent of the sewage is treated.
As for your travel kit, Rehydration salts are great it gets hot!! and they work good for hangovers to. Sunblock is also a must. and if your gonna be way out in the jungle take some antibiotics, Cipro is a great all purpose antibiotic. lastly don’t worry about Malaria if you have some travel nurse telling you otherwise I would save my money its very rare. You should also no that you can buy what you need when you get to Costa Rica pharmacy’s are very cheap and you don’t need a prescription

Is Costa Rica a safe travel destination for a family with young kids?

January 18th, 2010

We’re thinking of traveling to Costa Rica this summer (couple with kids ages 4 and 7). Is this a safe destination? Are there specific areas or activities that are most recommended? We’d love to try a "green" hotel, near the beach and rainforest. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks!

We rented a house on the Osa last year with my 2 girls and it was amazing. Try Lapa Rios or Bosque del Cabo. There are incredible places there and your little ones will love the monkeys, macaws, butterflies & beaches. It is very safe and clean. You do need to watch for scorpions & snakes but a little common sense will suffice.

Should I travel through Costa Rica with a tour or on my own?

January 14th, 2010

I’m planning a trip to Costa Rica for early May with a couple of friends. We want to be able to discover most of the country, visiting a few of the major national parks. I’m just planning on being there 7 or 8 days. Would you recommend a tour package or to rent a car a travel on our own? If so, what tour would u recommend? Is it safe for just 3 people to be traveling on their own through the country?

Thank you ahead for your responses

It is safe……….but your stay of 7/8 days is far short of what you need. If your planing an express trip through Costa Rica let someone else plan it and drive it. The roads are not what your used to. Just got back after a month.

Getting from one place to another is a real adventure.

What is the BEST online Costa Rica Travel Resource?

December 3rd, 2009

I am looking for the best online travel resource for all things about Costa Rica. Something very web 2.0 like….i like Yahoo Travel pages, and the ease at the way people can post and review, but unfortunately there isn’t alot of information in there….Thanks!

www.GoVisitCostarica.com has over 1500 hotels listed in the site and many have customer reviews. There are also custom maps and over 600 travel photos and a description of each region, area and city.
