Driving distances in Costa Rica? Romantic hotel ideas?
Hi… How long is the drive between San Jose and Manuel Antonio in Costa Rica? Is there a closer airport to Manuel Antonio?
I hear Manuel Antonio is very romantic with alot of activities available… are there other areas good for a romantic private vaction? Any secluded hotel ideas for honeymooners?
Thanks much in advance!
I’m not sure why google maps is giving me such a hard time with costa rican info…
I think it took us about 3 or 4 hours to get from San Jose to Manual Antonio. There is a small airport outside Quepos and if you wish you can take a puddle jumper from San Jose to Quepos. It is definitely quicker than driving.
We stayed at the Costa Verde Resort. This place is perfect for honeymooners. The resort is spread out over a large slab of land so it gives the illusion of privacy, but with all the modern conveniences. The have a gift shop and restaurant on property and 2 more within walking distance. The rooms were very large and clean with a full kitchen. There were hiking trails right on property. My favorite characteristic was the huge balcony overlooking the ocean and the big rocking chairs
Keep in mind that driving is CR is much different than in the states. The roads are not well marked and in many cases not well maintained. So even if things look close, it doesn’t mean you’ll necessarily be able to drive their quickly.
I usually leave the driving to someone else. I get a shuttle or cab to my location and I use tour companies that do hotel pickup (most of them) and use local cabs for going farther distances to explore. Driving can be an adventure or a nightmare if you aren’t familiar, and I prefer to keep my adventures with a guide in the jungle.

San Jose is only about 55 miles North of Manuel Antonio Park but it will take you approximately 4 – 5 hours to drive there due to the roads, the traffic and the natural geographical nature of the hilly country that you have to encounter.
You can fly from San Jose to Quepos (five miles west of Manuel Antonio on Sansa Air across the street from the San Jose National Airport. It costs about $56.00 and the flight takes approximately 29 minutes.
Best Western Hotel Karmak in Quepos is a great inexpensive Hotel charging about $50.00 a night with continential breakfast, swimming pool, casino on the premises and neat, clean rooms that you will enjoy during your stay and great for Honeymooners!
Hotel Diria right on Tamarindo Beach is also great for Honeymooners again a $50.00 per night room is available. Great Buffet breakfasts, three swimming pools, music on the patio, etc.
Buena Suerte!

I go to both places when I take my annual trip to Costa Rica when I am not staying in Hotel Del Rey in San Jose.
San José to Manuel Antonio is about 4 hours more or less, The closest airport is the main international Juan Santa Maria Airport.
There are a lot of things to do there and it is very beautiful and romantic.
Other romantic place include Conchal, Avellanas, San Gerardo of Dota, Sarapiqui, San Carlos near the volcanos.
