What’s the weather in Costa Rica like in late August, early September?
Also, the road conditions…like if the roads are bad because of any torrential downpours…would one be completely stuck in the hotel?

Late August–early September is time for rain, humidity and sickness….. You don’t know if it’s gonna rain as hell or if the sun with burn you……sometimes you get both on one day….that’s why you get sick…..
CR has low quality roads…..although it is not common that they close the roads…..(Unless there’s a tropical storm or something like that affecting CR….’cause rivers get very high and small towns flooded….)….the good news is that in CR there are many secondary roads to get wherever you need to be…so I don’t think u’ll get stucked in a hotel!!!
Best wishes!!!

Neither malaria nor dengue have been eradicated in Costa Rica. May to late November or early December is the rainy season in Costa Rica. It rains nearly every day, beginning at around noon and lasting into 6 or 7 pm. It can rain for 2 or 3 days straight, or it might not rain for 2 or 3 days, but it will rain, and you never imagined there could be so much rain.
You will not be completely stuck in a hotel. The mornings are warm and sunny (generally), the evenings dry and cool, but not cold. The roads are bad, but you can rent 4×4 vehicles at comfortable prices. Also, it might be raining in one part of San Jose, while it is sunny in another part. Costa Rica is full of micro-climates. It is absolutely exciting to visit and see the weather change from minute to minute. Or you can just visit from December to April when you will hardly see any rain.
