Two week itinerary suggestions for Costa Rica?

I am in the initial planning phase for a 2 week trip to Costa Rica in February 2010. My vacation will start and end in Liberia and I would love to visit both the Caribbean and Pacific sides of the country. Do you think 3 or 4 days on the Caribbean side is doable for a 2 week trip? Any suggestions for itinerary possibilities? Or any recommendations on cities, hotels or restaurants…since I am at the beginning of my research, any recommendations (positive or negative) would be great. Thanks!

you are trying to see to much in not enough time….take your time…that is what CR is like …no hurry…relax…breath deep….don’t hurry hurry….you will miss alot…check out Vida Tropical…they can set you up with EVERYTHING…and english is spoken…airport is in Alajuela…10min-$3 or$4 taxi ride to Vida…talk to Greg(30ish gringo) at Vida….fluient in spanish and he won’t steer you wrong

Ok, I’m not from CR, but, I had the pleasure of making my college practices there some years ago, and I spent the best 4 months ever!

Among my first recommendations would be to visit Heredia, specially "Monte de la Cruz" which is a mountain and I remember a nice and beautiful hotel called "La Condesa"….

Of course, you can’t miss "Isla Tortuga", you can arrange a one day trip that includes lunch on the beach and interesting activities like hiking.

Hope this helps…. (In San Jose I recommend you InterContinental hotel, it’s just some steps away from a big commercial mall)…

    Have a great trip!

I think it is very doable. I have done three day weekend trips to Costa Rica from Los Angeles before and although I have been there probably 10 or 12 times I have never stayed more than a week so you have plenty of time to see this amazing but small country.

    My recommendations/favorite places:

    1. Grano De Oro Hotel in San Jose (at least eat a meal here)
    2. Go to Arenal and get a cabina with a view of the volcano (stay two nights so you hopefully get a clear view)
    3. Manuel Antonio has alot of tourists but well worth the visit
    4. Check out the Dominical area for some off-the-beaten-path beaches
    5. Corcovado National park
