okay, I’m from Houston and Me and my friend "guys" want to visit Costa Rica for 6 days ….I really want some one to help me out and tell me
1)What cities should I visit?
2)What a good Singles Resort u guys recommend?
3) I love all the outdoor adventures, So what there to do in Costa Rica ?
4) I heard about the Forest, What is it CALLED ?

well, the help is HIGHLY appreciated, and I need it bad
hope ill get many answers soon lol thanks in advance

Interesting, I’m also from Houston been down here for 20 years now and I’m currently living in Los Suenos Resort and Marina, located on the central pacific coastline.

1- I enjoy the central pacific since it has a bit of everything, luxury to laid back and its now a short driving distance to nearly everything you need while in Costa Rica.

2- If you’re looking for a good time for single guys, you will find it in Jaco Beach or Manuel Antonio area.

3- Zipline Canopy, Sport Fishing, Golfing, White water rafting just to name a few.

4- The Rainforests are what you are talking about and Monteverde is the most popular, there are also cloud and dry forest which you will find on the coast.

Hope this helps

I am headed down to Costa Rica in July and I was looking to Backpack from San Jose,CR to Lima, Peru. What are some good destinations to throw in on the way? I plan i just backpacking through CR and Panama and fly from Panama to Lima, Peru so that I skip some areas. I plan on going through Manuel Antonio and the San Blaas Islands so far and then Machu pichu in Peru other than that I am kind of at a loss on what I should go see. Any ideas? Also anybody up for joining me for the adventure?

That’s a great plan. Ive made it to Panama but not no more south than there.
I backed packed from Mexico To Panama.

In Cr Manuel Antonio is beautiful and in Panama San Blaas is great.

I recomend when you go to Panama to stay at this Hostel http://www.lunascastlehostel.com/
You will meet back packers from Europe and North America, mostly college students in there 20′s but also people in there 30′s and up. Its a great place there, the people are very friendly and its really fun. That Hostel is in Casco Viejo Panama which is a historical part of Panama City, its a colonial style old city and very close to Panama Canal and other clubs and the taxis are very cheap there to get around. From the hostel you can get transportation to San Blaas and also they offer transportation by boat to Colombia. I know you dont plan on going to Colombia but a lot of people take the boat ride from Panama cause its supposed to be fun but I think its between $200 to $300 bucks so its kind of expensive.

Costa Rica is nicer in my opinion than Panama because it has high mountains and beaches and different climates, Panama is just very hot and a little more flat but Panama is also beautiful and it is a little cheaper than CR.

Have Fun and good luck.

I will be traveling alone to Costa Rica this June and will be there for a week. I’m 27 years old and I’m pretty active. Some of the activities in Costa Rica that I’m interested in doing include mountain biking, white water rafting and zip lining through the rain forest. Basically I’m wondering whether it is better to book these activities separately or as part of a multi-day tour package. I’ve noticed that some of the all-inclusive tours tend to cater towards older adults who might be less inclined to seek adventure. I actually want to experience the culture and I really have no interest in being pampered or "nickled and dimed" at some fancy resort. Is it better to have all these tours booked ahead of time or should I play it be ear and book upon arrival? Any tips or advice is appreciated. Also, if anyone has any adventure tour suggestions that involve camping, biking, etc that might be up my alley let me know. Thanks.

There is no reason to pre-book any activities in June. The pre-book prices are usually higher and you don’t really know what you are paying for. When you get there and see it and don’t like it, you can bail.

Do each one individually, not a package deal. Your hotel can book anything you want for you.

My hubby and I aren’t into water sports or any of that. We like bars, beaches, spas, shopping, etc. Prefer lots of people to secluded area. Looking for an all inclusive resort. Don’t know what part of costa rica is best. Thanks.
Thanks for all of your input! Btw, we are both 33. So we don’t want to go where it’s all spring-breakish. How is July? Is July better than June?

Jaco is a wasteland of human garbage. The streets are lined with drug users (and dealers offering you stuff right out in the open). The humidity is at 100% all day and night. It’s like living inside an oven. It’s a very small dirty town that has been over developed (most abandoned during credit crunch of 2008-09).

For great weather and nice beaches, go to the Guanacaste area. I recommend Flamingo, Samara, Nosara. Lots of great hotel options.

If you want a really romantic semi-secluded honeymoon, try Montezuma (or Tambor). It is at the south end of the Nicoya Peninsula. The water is crystal clear. There’s less tourists and you can still do all the activities you want.

To get there you go from the airport to Puntarenas, and take a ferry across to the peninsula. It’s the most romantic spot in CR.
Map: http://www.anywherecostarica.com/regions/nicoya-peninsula-costa-rica/maps

Btw, the resort that the previous poster mentioned is spectacular. I have friends who went there with girlfriends and they loved it. It’s a little pricey but it’s your honeymoon, you can save money when you get back.. haha

http://www.barcelo.com/BarceloHotels/en-GB/Hotels/CostaRica/PlayaTambor/TamborBeach/Home?kw=GO_102008_ROS_S1_en_US_H96&gclid=CPTnpY-jwKECFY-N5god0Tmz_A

June is good. The temperature is always great, the only difference is the amount of rain. June is the "green season" (rainy season) but it usually rains in the late morning/early afternoon. So do your beach, and outdoor activities early and be inside getting to know each other better in the afternoon. Some days it doesn’t rain at all, some it rains for an hour or two and then clears up nicely, and rarely does it rain all day. And the rain is usually not heavy, you can be outside with umbrella, or just a poncho. I wouldn’t worry about the weather at all. I have been there over 30 times (my wife is from there) and rain has never really affected any of my plans.

Heyy, so I’m going to Costa Rica this Saturday for vacation. I’m going to be spending 3 days in San Jose before going to the Arenal Volcano Lodge. I was wondering if somebody could suggest some things to do and see? I’m going to be joining tours for the most part, I want to do some Canopy Adventures, Tortuga Island Cruise, White Water Rafting, etc. but are there any must-do things? Also, I want to know if in the city, there are some stores/museums/restaurants that would be nice to visit in San Jose. Thanks!

Some places to visit in San jose:

This park, located two blocks northeast of Avenida 11 and Calle 7, is home to a large variety of native Costa Rican wildlife.

The Amusement Park
Parque Nacional de Diversiones

Costa Rica’s only amusement park is located in La Uruca, 2km west of the Hospital Mexico.(been there, awesome place.)

Turu Ba Ri Tropical Park (in Turrubares)
Features a canopy tour, aerial tram, Superman-style sensational cable, butterfly garden, horseback riding, nature trails, bromeliad garden, iguana farm and restaurant.

The National Museum is the grandaddy of them all. It was created a hundred years ago to exhibit religious and archaeological objects which define the history and character of the country.

The National Museum is situated in San Jose, capital of Costa Rica, on 17th Street, between Central and Second Avenue and on Cuesta de Moras. adjacent to Plaza de la Democracia.

I would definately say "Tamarindo" which is located at the North of Costa Rica. That place is amazing!!! I spent a whole year in Costa Rica and had the privilege of getting to know all the hot spots etc.

Tamarindo is awsome,Its the place to go if you want fun and adventure. You won’t feel out of place either as there are a few Americans living there. It’s relatively safe, has cheap accomodation, loads of activities, tropical beaches and an amazing night life

My family and I are going to Costa Rica this upcoming summer and we are wondering what there is to do. There are 4 of us and nobody is under 17. We are "adventures" and into snorkeling, diving, zipline, go to beaches that kind of stuff. So please if you have any experience with costa rica or know any nice spots or activities please share.

I’ve been to CR many times- we did a family trip with my wife and son, 17 and my brother’s group with two kids 16,17. We rented an 8 passenger van-hyundai i think- and spent 12 days driving around. Our trip started North to Arenal which is certainly worth the visit- we were lucky and actually had a clear day to see the entire Volcano which is also spectacular at night – we spent two days there at the Arenal Paraiso(recommend) and one day white water rafting which was really fun for everyone- We then headed to Monteverde which I would probably skip if I did it again. I t is beautiful there and the zip line was amazing but that drive was horrendous and long- we averaged 5 mph for 2 hrs due to the vans suspension- the 4 wd trucks were doing a little better- You should really only drive during daylight everywhere in CR due to road conditions- big potholes are common but driving is safe and I think it is a good way to see the country and enjoy the roadside "sodas" -small restaurants with great Tican food. We then headed to Nicoya peninsula for some beach, sun and surfing. I think it was 5-6 hour drive once we got away from Monteverde’s bad roads and on the main highway. We went to a real nice beach on the southern Pacific side called Samara and hung out there for 5-6 days to end our trip. Samara is pretty quiet but a great beach with medium surf and plenty of decent food & drink options in "town"Go to Jessie’s surf shop, family owned and real cool people right on the beach. If you’re looking for a more active place head north to Tamarindo (I know they call it gringo land and it is getting over developed) but it is a beautiful beach with plenty of night life and day activities- quad rentals, fishing, biking… There are also great beaches all around that area so you can drive around and find a place that works for your fam. We stayed at Capt Suizos in Tamarindo on a different visit and it was really an awesome place- went for 2 days and stayed 5- it is a bit $$ but much more reasonable in the summer time. Allow a full day to drive back to SJ due to traffic- I think it took us a good portion of the day before we got back to turn in the rental and crash by the airport for our early flight the next day. All in all, the driving was the best way to go- it gave us freedom to go where/when we wanted and provided for some laughs and a few scares- crossing a 150 ft deep ravine and getting on the bridge by driving on two planks was a white knuckler.. Good luck and I am sure you will enjoy CR and the great people there, Pura Vida

I recommend Ecuador. You can volunteer in the Galapagos Islands, on the coast, in the mountains, or in the rainforest. What more could you ask for? If you’re at all interested in education or farming, look up Rio Muchacho farm near Canoa, Ecuador. You can volunteer on the farm or at the elementary school that is attached. I know you can also volunteer with different indigenous tribes in the Amazon, or track Andean bears in the mountains, or work at a summer camp on the Galapagos. I have friends who did all of these! Over all it’s an amazing country with tons of opportunities.
