BEST fishing in Costa Rica ?

We are traveling to Arenal, Manuel Antonio and MonteVerde
we love to fish and want to find the best fishing in Costa Rica in those areas. Freshwater preferred, but Saltwater also ok.

Well you are going to two great locations for fishing. Lake Arenal is Fresh water and Quepos has some of the best Sail fishing and off-shore charters.

Here is a link where there are two companies offering these tours.

Contact the tourist office and ask them to send you brochures on the angling possibilities, or you can try this site – http://www.fishingcostarica.com

If there is good fishing there and you want to take your own rods, pack them in light but strong plastic tubing making sure you’ve wrapped the eyes on the rods with foam to prevent them being damaged. Don’t forget to seal the ends of the tubes securely.

Hooks, reels, fishing knives etc. pack in your case but carry the lead weights in your hand luggage so you can explain what is in your bag when you go through passport control and the x-rays.

The rods will be part of your baggage allowance.

I’ve lived in C.R. for almost 5 years and even though I don’t hang around "fishing circles" much, I don’t recall much excitement about freshwater fishing. I’ve heard field workers talk about freshwater fishing but it seems they only fish very late at night. Of the times I’ve gone fishing on the Pacific side, only once I came home empty-handed.
Do expect fishing tours to be expensive.

I am not sure when you plan on traveling to Costa Rica but for Saltwater fishing the best time of year for manuel antonio and quepos is December to April.
