Does anyone recommend certain driving maps for Costa Rica?

Here, in CR, road maps are not very used, because they just show you important roads or some of the roads with name as Paseo Colón or Avenida Segunda. Try to print maps from www.mapealo.com there appear MOST of the roads in San Jose. If you need some help driving, just ask locals, they may tell you.

An author from "WeLoveCostaRica.com" states that the best map they have found after 7 years of searching is at:

or else, many of the car rental companies in Costa Rica provide pretty good maps as well and they usually come with the rental. (Ask for it, if there’s not one in the glove compartment.)

if you are renting a car you can rent a GPS. I just did a month ago and it was great.I would get a map as a back up and the car rental company can supply that.

The maps are not very useful in Costa Rica. Most of the maps only show the main roads. You can ask for map when you rent a car but I agree with the above post, about also renting a GPS.
Another great resource, stop and ask for directions. Ticos are very friendly and they will be happy to help you. Just try not stop in suspicious places.
You can find a map in any bookstore/souvenir store in San Jose.
