Poas Volcano, Grecia & Sarchi. Costa Rica.

February 27th, 2010

We take the Pan-American Highway towards the city of Alajuela. In this route we pass by the Agriculture Monument, the Monument to Juan Santamaria and the famous Mango Park. As we ascend towards the volcano we stop for a brief explanation on our golden bean, coffee, and then continue our trip through fern, flower and strawberry farms.

There is a noticeable change in temperature and vegetation, preparing us for the pleasure in the exuberant cloud forest of Poas Volcano.

In the Volcano we will have time to enjoy the impressive main crater with its sulfur fumaroles, and hike on a trail to the beautiful Botos Lagoon. We will learn about the different ecosystems in the park. After visiting the volcano, we will have time to enjoy a delicious lunch in one of the typical restaurants of the area.

Our third stop will be in the beautiful Grecia. Considered one of the cleanest towns of Latin America, it is home of the only Metal Church in Central America and a of national monument that fills its inhabitants with pride. In order to catch a glimpse of the local lifestyle we will also visit the central market area.

Our last stop is on Sarchi, known as the Cradle of Costa Rican Artisans because of its fine workshops. Here we will have time to enjoy the artistic work of the local artisans as they create the famous typical oxcart. You will be able to shop for that special souvenir to take home.

Suggested Equipment: light jacket, comfortable shoes, binoculars and camera.

Colours Oasis Resort San Jose Costa Rica REVIEW

February 14th, 2010

Colours Oasis is a GAY but very ‘Straight-friendly’ resort in San Jose Costa Rica. Located in the Barrio Rohrmoser, which is just a short cab ride to the middle of downtown San Jose where all the major attractions are located: museums, markets, the National Theatre, shopping, as well as the gay bars like La Avispa, Club Oh, Pucho’s, and Bochinche. Gay friendly restaurants such as Cafe Mundo are within walking distance, and gay saunas are also in close proximity. You’ll want to stay at least 2-3 nights at Colours Oasis to take in all the hotel has to offer, such as the solar heated pool, secluded jacuzzi, a spacious sun bathing terrace, exercise room that doubles as a computer room, a beautiful patio garden complete with exotic birds, and a Great bar where everyone seems to meet for Happy Hour. Check out this GAY Hotel review from D’Angelo and michael alan from Travel Costa Rica NOW and see the many reasons the gay traveler as well as the ‘cooler’ straight travelers would be making a BIG mistake if they didn’t spend a few nights at the Colours Oasis Resort.

San Jose Airport Costa Rica

February 1st, 2010

Hey Everyone, michael alan and DAngelo from the Costa Rica Travel Channel. We went to Juan Santamaria International Airport aka San Jose Airport (so don’t be confused) and made a little video so you would know what to expect when you fly into Costa Rica. Sometimes, this airport can be quite intimidating, especially during high season (Dec-April). If you made it to La Fortuna, home of the Arenal Volcano, stop by, but don’t forget the Cacique.

Every country seems to have their own set of requirements when traveling ‘in’ and ‘out,’ and Costa Rica is no exception. The good news is, the requirements are fairly basic, as it’s quite easy to get in and out of the San Jose airport (Juan Santamaria International Airport)- with the possible exception of ‘time’. There ARE frequent instances of waiting a few hours in various lines, depending. Flying into Liberia’s, Daniel Oduber International Airport, located in the Guanacaste region is just a bit easier and less crowded than its older brother, Juan Santamaria Airport. But, if you are interested in Costa Rica travel, then you should probably take a look at this important information concerning entry and departure requirements even if you’re a seasoned traveler. The Costa Rica Travel Channel thinks it’s a good idea to remind you of things you may have forgotten you know.

Things have changed and a drivers license and birth certificate will NOT get you into Costa Rica. YOU MUST HAVE A VALID PASSPORT that will not expire within six months. If your passport is in poor condition the Costa Rica Travel Channel highly recommends that you replace it before leaving, you could be turned away. If you even suspect your passport may be a bit ‘weathered,’ don’t chance it, trust us, you really can be turned away and put on the next return flight. This would definitely be a vacation buzz kill. So, error on the side of being overly conservative.

US citizens as well as those from Canada and most European countries may visit Costa Rica for 90 days. If you wish a longer visit, you must leave the country for 72 hours. This will refresh your visa for another 90 days. However, there is a legal loophole. If for instance you left the country BEFORE your 90 days were up, you could re-enter after just a short day trip across the border, which would also refresh your visa for another 90 days. The Costa Rica Travel Channel does not endorse this, just reporting it. Doing this in and out thing a few times is no big deal. Doing it over and over (perpetual tourism) you can run a serious risk of being expelled from the country or refused re-admittance.
